New Home Is Where The Internet Is! Tumblr’s 10-page limit is keeping me from posting the whole thing, so head on over to the webcomic to read the rest (plus a blog post with Paris photos and doodles).
I’m going to Strasbourg tomorrow!!! I’m so excited. We might take a day trip into Germany and the Black Forest 8-D AHHHHHH. Back soon, love and hugs~
-Your friend Tally
Tally is not only an AMAZING comic artist but she’s living the dream! I hope my girls grow up and don’t let the constant yet abstract notion of fear dictate how they live in this world. Way to go Tally!! :D
I love this so much! As someone who’s only really started to travel in the last year, I totally get that initial terror. I’ve been pretty fortunate, and made so many friends all over the world. I went to Boston on a whim this weekend and got to spend an evening with comic people I met mostly through twitter - and everyone was wonderful. Yes, I got terrible food poisoning on the way home, but I also got to have barbecue and Manhattans with people who used to be strangers. Travel! It’s good for you.
FUCKING WATCH THIS
You really should watch this like rn
WATCH WATCH WATCH
“Lilo and Stitch” 2002
Lilo plays a trick on the tourists.
IF YOU LIVED HERE YOU’D UNDERSTAND
I desperately need to understand
WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY
Was this scene cut from the movie??!!
Fucking christ, do you know what this would have done? What this would have meant to SO MANY people?? The truth of this is devastating. And to think it almost found it’s way into a DISNEY film??
The inclusion of this scene alone would have made it the greatest animated feature the company ever produced. Easily. And if you think that’s hyperbolic clearly you don’t understand.
No, really, if anyone knows why this was cut PLEASE let me know.
oh man WHY WOULD they cut this, this is so great, holy MOLY
It was clearly something the crew was very reluctant to get rid of if it made it all the way to rough-clean (and in a few scenes clean!), fully inbetweened animation. That is like, thousands and thousands of dollars and weeks (months?!) of labour. Maybe a reluctant producer decided they would alienate their white middle-class American audiences by making them feel “too guilty” and pressed them to drop it? It’s unfortunate, it’s one of the most honest accounts of racism in a Disney movie (which is why it’s believable that someone got uncomfortable and made a case to get it chopped)
Designing entertainment by committee for maximum marketability is probably the most heartbreaking process in Hollywood.
I’ve been seeing this around my dash and think it deserves some more recognition!
This shit is hilarious, too.
NO WAIT SHIT
I GET IT NOW
I GET WHY SHE WAS PHOTOGRAPHING TOURISTS AS A HOBBY
SHE WAS BEING FUCKING SATIRICAL AND OBJECTIFYING
IT’S NOT BECAUSE SHE’S A DUMB KID WITH A WEIRD HOBBY IT’S BECAUSE THEY DO THAT TO HER AND HER FRIENDS AND FAMILY LIKE SHE’S SOME KIND OF FUCKING THEME PARK CHARACTER AND SHE WANTS THEM TO KNOW HOW IT FEELS
HOLY FUCKING DICKS DISNEY WHY WOULD YOU CUT THIS
This scene would have made it so much better.
I’m falling in love all over again

i refuse to believe any of this translates to anything
My favourite photo set ever
Oh god I am in love with this photoset. Wow.
That is the most fourteen year old thing I’ve ever heard.
are you kidding me?? that is the smartest thing i’ve ever heard like she literally fooled several adults into giving her the part that kicked off her incredibly successful career as an actress and let’s not pretend any of us were that clever when we were fourteen
I dont usually do these, but im pretty curious, considering I have difficulty describing/defining my own style.
"so youre saying all you can make is KETCHUP and PLATES??"
"actually, your majesty, theyre saucers"
How long until the 15 year olds take over this post with their garbage
Nobody is arguing these people don’t exist. Internalized racism/misogyny/transphobia etc etc etc definitely exists. People who are not educated on issues, even those concerning themselves, definitely exist. People in outright denial certainly exist.
The OP is perhaps unaware that the people who do say that wearing a bindi is cutural appropriation or that you shouldn’t use homophobic slurs were once like the people in this very comic.
A lot of times, when I read posts or articles about why one of these things is wrong, the author will say something along the lines of “I used to be that black person saying that white people can have dreads” or “I used to be that trans person who defended cis people”, and invariably, they always conclude that it was a mistake, because no matter how accepting or chill or appeasing they were, they were still treated like shit AND used as an instrument to undercut their legitimate complaints.
So, you know. These people DO exist, OP is right. But OP conveniently ignores what many of these people eventually conclude. Because OP is doing that exact thing: using these people as an instrument to treat other people in those same groups as shit and undercut their legitimate complaints.
Also a lot of the time these are discussions that are actually taking place within the communities? And that need to be discussed and negotiated so that as many people within the community as possible will feel welcome and safe. I can’t speak to the racially based issues highlighted here (I Am White Disclaimer) but the gender and sexuality ones? Yeah, you better believe that we’re constantly talking about that shit. Reclamation of slurs. Politicized identities vs. living stealth and the pros and cons of each and how they relate to activism. The constant minefield of people with dramatically different lived experiences feeling drawn to the same vaguely defined terms because nonbinary folks don’t really have tried and true ways of talking about our genders the way that binary people do.
The thing is that if you’re not part of those groups, taking part in those intragroup discussions, you may not be aware that those discussions are taking place. And that’s partly because we don’t want you to be aware. Because you are going to latch onto the viewpoints that make you feel comfortable rather than understand the dynamics of us trying to make as many of us feel safe as possible, and when “make as many people safe as possible” is the goal, then yes, “I feel unsafe” does take priority over “I don’t feel that this has any effect on my safety one way or the other.” There’s a big difference between someone within the group voicing a dissenting opinion - which then can be examined and if appropriate, can be synthesized with or supplant existing wisdom - and someone outside the group playing devil’s advocate.
Also those last two examples there are pretty awful strawmen. It’s a rare woman or trans person who would seriously argue the contrary of those positions, and honestly? A lot of the ones who would are people who have been so profoundly hurt that they need the shelter a community provides, and if they’re going to heal they need to get there with the help of people who can understand the nuances of their “I hate all [insert privileged group here]” rhetoric. And effective allies recognize that sometimes they need to step back and let the people they’re trying help take care of their own.
i saw this comic on my dash once before and thought long and hard about why it didn’t sit right with me, but couldn’t really put it into words — so here’s a much more eloquent explanation!
Or OP could be right in that some people really dont give a shit about stuff, like the crossdressing issue or dreads. Some people just dont really find it that important and, even though some stuff is important (like the internalized rape-culture I think I saw up there maybe?? Im not sure this reply is kinda late) some just…isn’t!.
I kinda see it like I do with religion. Different people partake on different parts of the Bible differently, and as long as it doesn’t hurt anybody or takes rights from them then its fine.
Also crossdressing is super cool wtf
I STILL CANNOT BELIEVE THIS
VINE PRIVILEGES ARE REVOKED
ok but me
Yeah fuck that person who thinks this isn’t intimidating for patients.
I do clinic escorting at a local clinic every weekend. We have a fence and the antis aren’t allowed on our property, luckily, but let me just tell you about my experience just today.
- I had a woman ask me for my name multiple times. She knew I worked for the clinic because I wear an apron that says “clinic escort” on it. She kept telling me I didn’t “have” to work for an abortion clinic. This is part of a concerted effort on the part of anti-choicers to harass clinic workers into quitting their jobs. It’s actually called "And then there were none" and it’s pretty fucking disgusting.
- When I walked up to a patient as she was getting out of her car (this is policy, we have to ask if the person has an appointment because the antis try to park on our property all the time), she got really scared at first because she thought I was one of the antis. She told me how relieved she was once she read my apron. This woman had an existing child that she mentioned to me as the antis were screaming over the fence about her “killing her baby”.
- Another woman told me how she was worried I might be “with them” when I walked up, just because the knowledge of how anti-choicers harass people going into the clinic is so commonplace. She was also relieved to have me there. One of the anti-choicers yelled at her about killing her baby from over the fence. She burst into tears.
- These people also yell at and harass the men that come into the clinics with either their partners or their family members. One woman kept yelling out to the men coming in to “protect [his] legacy”.
This was all in one day. One day. I’ve had other experiences on other days when I’ve escorted that are just as bad or worse.
It’s not like these people stand there silently. They are actively yelling at folks and when they can, pursuing them. If an anti-choicer at my place of work can’t get to someone through the part of the fence that overlooks the parking lot, they will push their pamphlets through the parts of the fence that face the doors of the clinic. They are aggressive and totally insensitive to the feelings of any of the patients coming into the clinic.
I haven’t worked at this clinic long, but I have seen the emotional effects that these people have on patients coming into the clinic. So like yeah, in one picture it doesn’t appear that they’re harassing anyone, yelling, or threatening people. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. And either way, who wants people staring at them when they’re going in for a medical procedure? Or when you come out of one, and you’re still so groggy from anesthesia that you need one of the clinic nurses (or even myself or someone else in my kind of position!) to hold you up and put you in the car?
Anyone who thinks the people standing outside of clinics are not doing it with the intent to harass and bully is wrong, and patients deserve to be protected from this kind of bullshit. My clinic has a big fence and the patients that we serve still feel harassed and bullied. I can’t imagine what it must be like for people going into a clinic without that, like what is pictured.
Thank you for the work you do. Clinic escorts are so brave, and so needed.
